Glasgow

Glasgow is Scotland’s largest city with a population of nearly one million people living or working in greater Glasgow.

Glasgow has three large universities, three international sports stadia, an international conference centre, a modernised city centre retail area and significant inward investment. Following devolution, Glasgow is rapidly becoming a major centre for business, education and tourism. Already the home of banks, businesses and financial institutions, Glasgow is proving a popular location for overseas investment. These are all factors that contribute towards the traditionally strong letting market in the city.

  • Scotland is the 6th largest equity management centre in Europe managing £351 billion in funds
  • Scotland is a home to 3 of the world's top 5 computer and office equipment manufacturers (IBM, Hewlett Packard, and Compaq).
  • Scotland has a 7% share of the European semiconductor production capacity and a 47% share of the UK capacity
  • The Scottish food & drink industry employs over 47,000 people in more than 1,800 businesses with combined sales of £7.3 billion and export sales of £2.4 billion, representing over 12 per cent of manufactured exports.*
Having undergone a renaissance since the 1988 Garden Festival, Glasgow has completed its rejuvenation with the awards of the European City of Architecture and European City of Culture. Long gone are the chimneys and cranes associated with the city’s heavy industry, instead today’s Glasgow is a young cosmopolitan modern city with excellent amenities and an exciting future.

Although Glasgow has seen transformation in many areas, it has yet to undergo the huge property explosion that has hit the south of England. Prices have risen in recent years, but Glasgow has yet to hit the peaks seen in other major cities.

As property prices are lower, rental yields as a proportion of the value of the property are higher than in other major UK cities. These conditions all point to an opportunity for a real sustainable investment.
